Incorrectly stored tapes are at risk from damage and degradation. But maintaining those tapes is not an easy or quick task. We can help.
Our research and experience has shown that the majority of stored tapes are not being played and rewound on a regular basis; something that Sony, Maxell and Fuji all recommend be done. This was confirmed by a survey we conducted in July 2008.
Moreover, tapes are often left spooled halfway through, rather than returned to rest on their leader tapes. This is where we find a lot of the damage is being done to the tape surface.
But our archiving solution offers so much more than this. Whilst we run your tapes, our machines are also using sensors to physically scan the surface of the magnetic tape, to check for damage - this means you can know exactly where on the tape any scratches or defects sit.
At the same time, the tape itself is cleaned of dust and dirt and cleared of loose oxides. Thus, when they are returned to storage, the risk of further decay is dramatically reduced.
It's like taking your tape to a health spa for the weekend. It's coming back refreshed and invigorated, and you can know for sure that your valuable footage is safe.
If you want to check how your storage habits are affecting the condition
of your tapes, why not take the survey now.
