The 30 Degree Rule

Used in conjunction with the 180 degree rule, or the line of action, the 30 degree rule will help your continuity editing. Like all rules, it is made to be broken, but unless you intend to break it, following it's spirit will help prevent problems in the edit suite.

Essentially the rule is used to prevent jarring jump cuts when you move in closer to a subject. Jump cuts are much more prevalent these days, so don't worry too much if you find you have them, but if you want to avoid them, this rule is for you.

Simply put, when you cut closer to a subject, you should rotate the camera around it's axis by no less than 30 degrees.
